380 persons and companies are currently members of Folkwang-Museumsverein. The personal members are for the most part committed citizens of Essen, many of whose ties with the association last for decades. The association also includes a number of members who live throughout Germany, and abroad, and who remain loyal to the museum from a distance, often for many years.
The company memberships include renowned enterprises, which in the tradition of the founders have for years given Museum Folkwang considerable financial support. Long-term sponsors among the company members support exhibition projects, many of which in the past were conducted in close collaboration, and make possible acquisitions that enabled important sections of the Folkwang Collection to be extended.

New members are welcome!
Folkwang-Museumsverein selects its members carefully. We take into consideration the responsibility all members share for the museum and the maintenance of its collection. We want our new members to identify strongly with the institution and its tasks, to occasionally be involved in extending the collection and in special cases in conducting museum projects, at their own discretion. Nowadays our members are communicators who help Museum Folkwang make a broad impact. We want the Folkwang idea, the support of the arts, and the communication of artistic themes to be present in the public eye through our members, too.
The association now has about 380 members, including influential representatives of business, culture and society. The association aims to continually increase the number of members in a circumspect fashion. On the recommendation of a current member of the association, the Board decides on the acceptance of new members. This “mentoring” principle has proved successful, as it also provides the new member with easier access to the wide circle of interesting contacts and to other enthusiastic friends of Museum Folkwang.
