New acquisition of a print by the German artist Erich Heckel through the Folkwang-Museumsverein

Once again, the Folkwang-Museumsverein was able to acquire an artwork from the Expressionist period with funds provided by the estate of the couple Liselotte and Dr. Walter Griese. The purchased print "Zwei ruhende Frauen" (1909) by the German painter and graphic designer Erich Heckel (1883-1970) is captivating due to its great crispness of color and impressively testifies to Heckel's use of the color woodcut technique.

The fact that the artwork is hand printed and and wasn't produced in a higher quantity adds to the charm of the picture in particular. Heckel created four color woodcuts in each of the years 1909 and 1910. "Zwei ruhende Frauen" is the most elaborate print among them, with a total of five colors being used.
